The Practice of
Naming Seriously Ill Parishioners
in the Prayers of the Faithful
at weekend masses

After much discussion and discernment on the part of the Liturgy Team, Pastoral Council and Parish Staff, a consensus has been reached to resume naming seriously ill parishioners in the Prayers of the Faithful.

To address many concerns that have been voiced in calling out the names in the Prayers of the Faithful, the following guidelines have been developed and approved (by consensus) by the Parish Staff and Pastoral Council:

1.     Immediate family, who are seriously ill (hospitalized or terminally ill), Catholic or non-Catholic, residing in our local parish.

 2.     Will announce for two consecutive weeks.

 3.     The office must be called by a family member (not a friend or acquaintance).  This is critically needed in order for us to know to put someone’s name on the list, it also gives us the opportunity to verify if the person whose name was requested, wishes their name included.

 4.     Late additions to the prayer list (in the pulpit) can be made only by  Priests/Deacon.

 5.     We continue to encourage people to use the Book of Intercessions for the sick, dying and special intentions.
