Deacon Ben attended Lopez Elementary School in Biloxi, Mississippi and then attended Biloxi High School where he graduated in 1967.

Following High School he earned a BA at Jefferson Davis Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. 

His interests include gardening and attending the performing arts.
