Dennis Burke grew up on the Point in East Biloxi, raised by his grandparents Dalton and Delphine Langlinais, and to whom he owes his strong faith and work ethic. He attended St. Michael’s elementary school and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1967. He also attended Gulf Coast Community College, Jeff Davis Campus receiving his associate’s degree in 1969. He completed his B.S. degree in Business and Finance at The University of Southern Mississippi in 1971.
In February 1972 began his banking and finance career with First Federal Savings and Loan of Biloxi, working there until its merger with Magnolia Federal 1989. In 1992 he was offered an opportunity to take a job with The Peoples Bank where he worked until his retirement in June 2014 having served as Vice President in Business Development.
Dennis has been a member of Nativity parish for over 50 years. He and his wife Nanette were married in Nativity Church Dec 18, 1971. He has been active in many aspects of the Parish. He sings in the choir, serves as Cantor, both he and his wife have served as Youth Directors, served on Parish Council, served as Chair of the 175th Anniversary of the parish and was a founding member of the Nativity Men’s Club.
Dennis and Nanette received the For God and Youth award when they were Youth Ministers and received the Lumen Christi Award from the Diocese for the Parish in 2018.
Dennis has been very active in civic activities as well. He was named to the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Hall of Fame in 2012 and named Biloxi’s Outstanding Citizen in 2013.
He and Nanette are the parents of Emily Kate Burke and Sam Burke. Sam is married to Sarah Toche Burke and all are members of Nativity BVM Cathedral Parish. Their grandchildren are Wiliam J. Burke, Samuel J Burke Jr., Cole Toche Burke, Alyson Mary Burke, and Bennett Simon Burke. Their children and grandchildren all attended or attending Nativity BVM Elementary School.
